Keep in mind that Copper and Brass will patina/oxidize over time. I personally prefer this aged look, but will repolish my jewelry every so often. There are several ways to clean copper/brass to make it look new again...
Soap and water- gently rub with a cloth or brush. Then rinse and dry.
A cut lemon- rub onto jewelry then rinse/wipe.
Lemon juice- soak for a minute, wipe and dry.
Vinegar (my preferred method)- soak for a minute, wipe and dry with a cloth.
Jewelry with raw stones or shells should only be gently cleansed with soap and water to not cause damage.
